Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 22:48 on 31 March 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

SZA

... that singer-songwriter SZA was a hijabi as a child, but stopped wearing one due to Islamophobia after 9/11? The wording here seems kind of awkward to follow. I definitely get what this is saying, but stopped wearing one referring to the implicit hijab in "hijabi" is a bit odd. Could it be updated to something like

... that singer-songwriter SZA wore a hijab as a child, but stopped due to Islamophobia after 9/11?

For what it's worth, this was discussed at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#SZA hook (Queue 3).--Launchballer 00:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've tweaked the hook along the lines suggested. The hook didn't make sense as it stood, because if it's hijabi then what was the "one" about... The original working said "stopped wearing a hijab" which might work too, but it seems like talking of hijabs directly rather than hijabi gets the point acrossa anyway.  — Amakuru (talk) 09:01, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It says that; "that singer-songwriter SZA wore a hijab as a child, but stopped wearing it due to Islamophobia after 9/11?" → This sentence is formulated as an opinion but highlight from front page rephrase the definition since citation are included in the main article. (unsigned comment by User:SirlupinwatsonIII as of 11:08, 31 March 2025 copied from Talk:Main Page)

@SirlupinwatsonIII: I'm not sure what you're referring to here. The hook you mention above is stated as a fact - she stopped wearing the hijab after 9/11 - not as an opinion. Please can you clarify what issue you are seeing? Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:02, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Thanks for the reply; I appreciate it! I was reading, and she does not explicitly say this is related to the subject of Islamophobia, as I did not read the article from the citation. I was thinking that maybe she had another reason, but this might be my understanding and I was mainly questioning how this should be if I ever have to read "subjects" that I might not have enough experience with yet. The only thing is that articles that are featured could offer a more robust intonation and not contain question marks, as I think this space should be used in 1 sentence to highlight the article itself. But again, thank you for your reply; this helps me to get better...
Have a wonderful day! SirlupinwatsonIII (talk) 13:46, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this lead, that Sal Maida (pictured) may not have a Wikipedia page?, I don't like this lead at all, the article was published several years before the subject got a Wikipedia page and them not having a page isn't true today. "May not" well, they clearly do now given that it exists. I don't think the hook should be a fact that is obviously not true today. It's also an off hand, quirky remark by the article's author that really isn't interesting now that they do have a Wikipedia page. jolielover♥talk 18:19, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is the April Fools set, and I don't think this one even counts as that because the article obviously exists. I regret approving it and not thinking of this earlier. SL93 (talk) 18:21, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A number of that April Fools' set have hooks that have been made to "fit" silly hooks by lowercasing words, which is somewhat weak. The "America keeps coming back" hook is linked to an article that is barely a stub and appears to be about a common sentence that a few politicians have uttered. Oh well. Black Kite (talk) 18:39, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If I saw the Sal Maida link, my response would be 'where would the link go'. As it happens, there are two hooks in prep 4 that could be substituted (the Freni/squid hooks, see WT:DYK#April Fool's set for context).--Launchballer 19:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. SL93 (talk) 20:00, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As discussed at Template:Did you know nominations/Alien Mus this was pulled by RoySmith after this complaint here by Fram as We're not running a hook just to make fun of somebody's name. TSventon (talk) 19:16, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Launchballer I hope you at the very least discussed this with one of the above usernames before re-promoting it. SL93 (talk) 19:38, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There appeared to be a consensus at the nomination for this to run (hence @AirshipJungleman29: reapproving it for that purpose).--Launchballer 19:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you're not suggesting that us non-Westerners need to run hooks past people who don't understand how Indonesian names work so that they can decide if we should be offended, SL93. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:19, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you realize you're being a total jerk, AirshipJungleman29. I'm just trying to avoid drama and gain proper consensus. SL93 (talk) 20:28, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the drama started when Fram accused the Indonesian nominator of enforcing Eurocentrism, SL93. As far as I can see, five editors at the nomination supported running the hook (alongside Launchballer who promoted it), against two (both western, IIRC) editors who decided that it was offensive to non-Westerners, and didn't provide any justification other than something along the lines of "referring to people by their first names is "making fun"". Personally, I'd like Fram to apologise to Jeromi Mikhael for their completely unwarranted WP:ASPERSIONS. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:54, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So we´re not making fun of the name, and at the same time the name is so funny for Enwiki readers that we run it for April Fools´ Day? Right... Fram (talk) 21:11, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:DYKAPRIL: "April Fools Did You Know items should present some trivia that can be presented in a manner that is possibly unbelievable to the reader. This can be done through words or names that mean two different things, shortened names, unbelievable facts, unrelated facts, etc." Let me know where it says April Fools' hooks should be "so funny", Fram. Do you find all the other hooks in the set uproariously hilarious, by the way? Or is it just this one that has to be construed as "so funny"? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 21:46, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

They'd probably find out about the existence of the word sooner or later, but in any case they probably don't know what it means. I don't see a concern. Cremastra (talk) 21:55, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
